Course Description:

This course provides participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary for conducting qualitative analysis and interpretation within the context of community-engaged research. Through interactive lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will explore various qualitative analysis methods, interpretive frameworks, and ethical considerations specific to community-based research projects. The course emphasizes practical strategies for engaging communities in the research process and interpreting qualitative data in a culturally sensitive and contextually meaningful manner.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the principles and approaches of qualitative analysis within the framework of community-engaged research.
  • Identify and critically evaluate different qualitative data collection methods suitable for community-based research projects.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in qualitative data coding, categorization, and thematic analysis techniques.
  • Explore strategies for ensuring rigor, trustworthiness, and validity in qualitative data analysis within community-engaged research contexts.
  • Develop skills in interpreting qualitative data in collaboration with community partners, considering cultural nuances and contextual factors.
  • Apply qualitative analysis and interpretation techniques to real-world community-engaged research scenarios through case studies and interactive exercises.
  • Discuss strategies for effectively communicating qualitative research findings to diverse community stakeholders and audiences.
  • Explore avenues for ongoing engagement with communities throughout the research process and beyond, fostering mutual learning and empowerment.
